Disclaimer: This resource includes information about the use of medication. Our understanding of the effective and appropriate use of medications to support people living with dementia is evolving. Our forthcoming guidelines (anticipated release date of March 2024) will include up-to-date information on this topic.

This guideline is for health care providers interested in deprescribing antipsychotic medications. It guides health care providers in what to think about when deprescribing antipsychotic medication. It offers recommendations on the process and offers suggestions if it is not working. This guideline also provides a notes page containing commonly prescribed antipsychotics, side effects, how to engage care partners and patients, and more. A video on how to use this guideline is available here.
